Hammerwich Station lives on

Posted by southstaffsrail on December 4, 2012 at 3:05 PM

Remarkably one of the wooden out-buildings that stood at Hammerwich Station is still standing  in someone’s garden as a garden shed.

When the Station closed back in 1965 British Rail didn't really take much responsibility with its property. Local residents of Hammerwich decided tomake use of certain objects which would have been either vandalised or demolished. The shed in question seems to of been used for issuing tickets, but we can’t clarify this. If anyone knows anymore, please contact us.

We was told that the coal board moved the shed as a favour,  from the disused station to the back garden of a house on Burntwood Road, Hammerwich.

We understand that the windows and paint work are original and only the guttering has been added since it was moved from the station.
