Hammerwich Latest - August 2012 (bridge repairs... Sign In or Register to add photos

This month we were amazed to see that a sub contractor from either Network Rail or the local Council has been working on restoring the Hammerwich Footbridge. The smell of cut metal was all around the bridge area when we visited the site on Friday 24th August 2012. The undergrowth around the bridge had been cut away with either a strimmer or grass cutter. The bridge has been marked up with chalk, with beam numbers and areas of extreme erosion. Nice shiny pins and bolts had been replaced and the old painted ones scattered on the floor. The lady who lives in the former Station House, came out and spoke to us, saying she thought the contractors were there to take the bridge down. The company had demolision and salvage contrators on the side of the van, and she notices it was a Shelfield comapny. We will keep you posted on the developments in the coming weeks. Rob
