Signal Box Closures

Posted by southstaffsrail on August 5, 2012 at 4:45 AM

West Midlands Signalling Centre

The West Midlands Signalling Centre at Saltley will provide Network Rail with a centralised facility for the West Midlands using a VDU based signalling control system. Signalling operations will eventually be controlled from the new state-of-the-art centre

As each phase is completed, signalling operations for that area will move into the West Midlands Signalling Centre at Saltley. When completed in 2014, combined with other signalling renewals in the region (i.e. Coventry and Droitwich) the proposed area of control will include 415 route miles replacing up to 38 signal boxes.

Stourbridge to Hartlebury goes this bank holiday weekend, not October. Wolves is 2014 as far as I am aware. Stafford is 2015 as well as possibly Banbury, Saltley south will be a re-control to WMSCC, not a re-signalling. New St is December 2017.

Cheers for the info Jonathan, the paper work that Network Rail gave us was produced in 2011, so they must of updated it since. :-)
