This photo was taken by one of our members (Richard Edwards). It was taken on a mobile phone from a London Midland Train. The tamper train was doubled up and was parked on the far siding (diesel only track).
Tampers are a vital piece of equipment used to ensure the correct position of rail tracks. Over time regular usage of the tracks results in movement and renewed tracks may need repositioning. Tampers travel lift and re-align rail tracks to ensure that as trains pass over them their passengers have a smooth, comfortable and safe journey.
